SHOWERY TO FAIR (Special to "The Timaru Herald’*) WELLINGTON, October 13. Winds—Moderate to strong but decreasing southerly to westerly winds. Weather—A shower or two but the weather mainly fair and cool. Sea —Moderate to rather rough. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation An anti-cyclone centred in the North Tasman Sea tends over northern New Zealand and pressure is rising again rapidly in the south behind a deep westerly depression which is now approaching the Chatham Islands. Forecast Winds—From a westerly quarter but with directions south of west prevailing at first, force moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in exposed positions south of Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay but decreasing tomorrow. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Slight to moderate north of East Cape, otherwise rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong winds from a westerly quarter and rather rough to rough seas. Weather—For the most part fair to cloudy with occasional showers, however, especially in western areas and in the far south; temperatures cool in the south and moderate in the north. WINDY WEEK-END Bright sunshine accompanied by a moderate north-westerly wind prevailed on Saturday. Yesterday conditions were sultry during the morning but later the wind veered to the south and conditions became cold. Records at Timaru Park on Saturday were:— Barometer—29.9. Max. temperature—73. Min. temp, on grass—29.B. Wind—N.E.2. Frost—2.2 degrees. Rainfall—Nil. Sunshine—2.9 hours. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—29.7. Max. temperature—76.4. Min. temp, on grass—43.2. Wind—N.W.4. Frost—Nil. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—lB.s6ins. Rainfall to date last year—ll.l4ins Sunshine—4.4 hours. Sunshine to date this year—l4o7hrs. Sunshine to date last year—l42o.6hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Dunedin: Unusual variations in temperature were experienced on Saturday. The morning was rather chilly but a strong north-westerly wind prevailed throughout the afternoon and the temperature rose to 69 degrees. The wind changed to south-west in the evening and the barometer became steady at 30 inches (1016 millibars) after falling sharply about mid-day. The sky was overcast and no sunshine was recorded. Yesterday was fine but overcast with a strong south-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees and the minimum 52 degrees. The barometer, which had fallen sharply in the morning, rose again towards mid-day and the evening reading was 29.90 inches (1012 millibars).
