Clandeboye Club There were many visitor’s and a good attendance of club members at the opening of the Clandeboye Tennis Club on Saturday. The president (Mr T. Langrill), apologised for the absence of the patron, Mr A. W. Buzan. In declaring the season open the president said that the membership had been depleted by the war. He appealed to young members to put their shoulders to the wheel and make the season a successful one. There were many close games in the Yankee tournament which was held. In the final Miss M. White and M. Healy defeated Miss Boocock and A. Donehue. Afternoon tea was served by the women's committee. BOBBY CALVES Last Thursday’s collection of bobby calves by the South Canterbury Calf Pool Committee numbered 77 as against 163 for the corresponding period last year. To date 2997 calves have been collected compared with 3336 for the same period last year. “DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK” “Drums Along the Mohawk,” at the Elite Theatre to-night, takes place in those days of romance and adventure when America was young. Claudette Colbert, an aristocratic city-bred girl, marries Henry Fonda, a farmer-colon-ist of the Mohawk Valley, as the film opens. Fonda takes his bride to the rough frontier where her spirit is almost broken by the crude life and surroundings. But, a brave girl, she perseveres and their love is strengthened by the hardships and perils they share. Then the Indians, under the drive of the British (for this is during the Revolution, attack the peaceful valley. This is the signal that unleashes such thrills upon the screen as it has seldom shown.
