Demaret Wins Invitation Golf United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright AUGUSTA (Georgia), April 7. In the masters’ invitation golf tournament, Lloyd Mangrum, with a score of 64. led in the first round. His score was two under the course record, and eight under par. Other scores were: Demaret 67, Byron Nelson 69, Lawson Little 70, Craig Wood 70. Henry Picard 71, Armour 71. Goggin 71. Runyan 72. Yates 72, Burke 72. Ben Hogan 73. Ferrier 73, Bud Ward 74. Guldahl 74, Jones 79. At the end of the second round, which he did in 74, Ferrier was twentieth, having dropped back three places from his position at the end of the first round. After the second round, the position of the leaders was as follows, second round scores, where given, being in parentheses: Mangrum (75) and Demaret (72) 139, Nelson (72) 141, Bud Ward (68) and Henry Picard 142, Sam Snead 143. Culdahl, Ben Hogan and Lawson Little x*7. At the end of «ie third round. Ferrier had slipped still further, and he shared 25th place with Lawson Little
and Sarazen. The leaders were: Demaret (70) 209, Mangrum (71) 210. With an under par score in the fourth round of 71, Demaret won the championship with a total of 230. Mangru.n (74—284) was second and Nelson (70—285) was third. Ferrier, with 296, was places 26th. Ferrier told the Australian Associated Press that he was satisfied with his play. Professionals here consider him c’.angerous and liable to upset any tournament when in form. He is going to Chicago on Monday and thence to Detroit to compete in the ‘ .tropolitan Open.
