SHOWERY Specia’ to " The Timaru Herald" WELLINGTON, February 11. Winds—Varying between northwest and south-west but with a more definite change to south-west during the day; force fresh to strong. Weather—Mainly fair but with showers accompanying and following the south-westerly change; temperatures cool. Seas —Moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation An anti-cyclone with its axis lying east and west is centred to the north of New Zealand, while a deep westerly depression is approaching across the South Tasman Sea. Foreca't Winds—From between north-west and south-west, but a more definite south-westerly change soon setting in from the south, force moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in parts of the western and southern districts of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Moderate on the East Coast, north of Otago Peninsula, rough elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—Winds from a westerly quarter, strong to gale force in the southern portion with very rough seas, fresh to strong but decreasing in the northern portion with rather rough seas. Weather—Showery in Westland and Southland and showers extending to eastern districts of the South Island with the south-westerly change; otherwise mainly fair to cloudy; cool temperatures with some further snow probable on the ranges of the South Island. Feb. 23, it 9.55 an. Last Quarter . Mar. 1, at 2.35 p.m CHANGEABLE WEEK-END After an overcast morning showers fell from about mid-day on Saturday until late in the afternoon, when the sky cleared. A moderate southerly wind prevailed. Sunday morning was overcast with intermittent sunshine. A light shower fell during the afternoon but the sun broke through again and the remainder of the day was fine and warm. Records at Timaru Park on Saturday were:— Barometer—29.4. Max. temp.—s7.B. Min. temp, on grass—44.2. Wind—S.4. Rainfall—Trace. Sunshine—l,6hrs.

IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: A week of hot weather with boisterous north-west winds ended early on Saturday when with a change of wind to south-west heavy rain set in and continued Intermittently until the evening. The rain was sufficiet to cause the postponement of sports fixtures, Including cricket, tennis, bowls and the Lyttelton Centennial regatta. Dunedin: There was again a strong south-west wind on Saturday and falls of rain with one or two hail showers were frequent. Though the sun shone between showers, temperatures generally were cool and the maximum was 57 degrees. Yesterday was overcast with occasional showers and a light breeze'from the north-east. The barometer fell sharply to 29.80 inches (999 millibars).
