Unassailable Position
Waimate Team’s Lead High School had a win over Morven by 30 runs in the Waimate Cricket Sub-Association’s competition on Saturday, and Waimate won by default from Toilers which now places Wamate in an almost unassailable position in the competition. TENNIS NORTH OTAGO DEFEATED The Waihao Lawn Tennis SubAssociation’s representative team defeated North Otago at Oamaru on Saturday by 15 sets to nine. Results (Waihao names rst):— Men’s singles: P. Women’s singles: Miss T. Neal beat Miss Mclnnes 9-8, Miss G. Brittenden lost to Miss Ingram 6-9, Miss M. McNeill beat Mrs Crisp 9-6, Miss A. Faulkner beat Mrs Ingram 9-6. Mrs B. F. Hall beat Mrs McDougall 9-3. Miss Thompson beat Miss Shale-George 9-8. Mrs Hall and Miss Thompson lost to Mrs Ingram and Miss Shale-George 0-7. PERSONAL At the conclusion of the Waimate Swimming Club’s carnival, a presentation was made to Mr D. Jones, who has enlisted in the Second Echelon. The presentation was made by the Mayor, Mr G. Dash, who referred to the prominent part Mr Jones had taken in the activities of the Swimming Club. Mr R. McGillivray, Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, Christchurch, will be a visitor to Waimate to-morrow.
