GENEROUS GIVING

FUNDS FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSES By Telegraph —Press Association NELSON, January 23. Discarding by a large majority the appointed committee’s proposal to hold a queen carnival at an early date to raise funds for patriotic purposes, a big public meeting passed a motion, the effect of which is that an effort will be made to raise Nelson district patriotic funds by a direct public appeal and house to house canvass. After the carrying of a motion to this effect moved by the Rev. W. Rowe on behalf of the Ministers’ Association, the meeting took a somewhat surprising turn, when a citizen offered to give £5O to the funds. He was quickly followed by many others, with a result that within 15 minutes approximately £5OO was given or promised by those present.
