Poise And Charm Create Good Impression Perhaps you have noticed how some women and girls are always successful in business. They manage to “get on” and receive promotion while others merely become older. But before you can receive your chance of promotion you must first secure your position, and your beauty specialist will not only help you to do this, but will help you to keep it and advance in it. A few years back capability counted more than anything else in acquiring and holding a position, but that is no longer the case. In these days not only must you be capable, but you must be well groomed and have a well-modulated voice, so that when you receive your preliminary interview you will not only create a good impression and secure the position, but afterwards you will advance far in your chosen field. You do not want to be content to be one of those girls who answer the buzzer all their lives, but you want to rise quickly so that you will be the person who pushes the buzzer. And so that you can rise to this position as quickly as possible let us briefly discuss what you must do at each stage of your business career. You are seeking a position and have secured an interview with the person whom you hope will be your future employer. Your make-up will be light. Lipstick will not be used obviously, and unless you can apply your rouge very lightly it is better not to use any at all. Your hair* should be well groomed and kept in place with setting lotion, and the nailpolish should be unobtrusive. Remember that your employer is seeking an efficient helper, not a glamorous mannequin.

Your Voice is Important Next comes your voice. Your face may gain you a few preliminary advantages, but it Is your voice which will help you most. Speak clearly and distinctly, so that a person could even tell what you were saying by watching your lips. You must have a pleasing and interesting voice, and if you are seeking an interview over the telephone remember that it is advisable to 1 lower your voice by one tone. You have heard a shrill voice over the wireless, and realise how it grates on the ears, therefore, bear it in mind when you are talking. Do not raise your voice and shout into the speaker. A deep, well-modulated voice will carry much more distinctly than a shrill, loud one. An excellent exercise for cultivating a good talking voice is, with the tip of your tongue, touch the outside edge of every tooth in your mouth. Touch each tooth separately and distinctly and work the whole of the way round the mouth. Most actresses practise this exercise every day, and you will notice that when they are speaking from a stage before a crowded audience they never have to raise their voice and shout. They speak slowly, lowly and distinctly, and their voice carries to the farthest corners of the theatre. Good Clothes an Investment When you are speaking to your future employer, do not discuss your past positions, if you have had any, nor say too much about yourself. Tell him candidly what you have done, what your ambitions are, and allow your appearance and personality to do the rest. You may have noticed that it is not always the person with a bundle of diplomas who Is the most successful in business. There are many employers who would sooner take a girl with appearance and personality, and very little experience, and train her into their own methods.

Next you will want to know what will help you to obtain promotion. Ability, certainly, but naturally we assume that you have ability. Therefore, your next most important point is personality, and it is here again that the beauty specialist helps you. Your hands and hair should be always well groomed. Care for your hair and remember that business heads do not like girls w V untidy hair, and loose hairs hanging their shoulders. No Perfume Perfume should never be used during office hours. When your employer is dictating a letter he does not wish to be annoyed with perfume. As a business girl you must cultivate two personalities. One for office hours, and the other glamorous you for your own pleasure hours when workaday cares are laid to one side. Therefore, briefly, your most important beauty points, if you wish to be successful, are good clothes, beautiful voice, not too much make-up, well-cared-for hands and hair. You must then find that success will b° half on its way towards you.
