SENATOR BORAH DEAD
Was Great American Statesman President’s Tribute United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 21, 8.54 p.m) WASHINGTON, January 20. The death has occurred of Senator Borah. President Roosevelt, in a tribute said: “Senator Borah was a unique figure whose passing will leave a void m American life. His utterances commanded close attention in the Senate and a far-flung public audience. He was fair-minded, firm in principle and shrewd in judgment with a personal charm and courteous manner which had its source in a kind heart.” Legislators of all political faiths likewise expressed sorrow and paid tributes to a great statesman. It is considered likely that there will be a State funeral, attended by the President, members of the Cabinet., Diplomats, other Leaders and Legislators. The burial will probably be at Boise, Idaho. Senator Borah will be accorded a State funeral on Monday, after which 10 Senators and 10 members of the House of Representatives will escort the body to Boise, Idaho. The Mayor (Mr F. H. La Guardia) proclaimed to-day one of mourning in New York. Senator William Edgar Borah was born at Fairfield. Illinois, on June 29. 1865. He was educated at the Southern Illinois Academy. Enfield, and at the University of Texas. In 1889 he was admitted to the Bar and practised at Lyons, Kansas, during 1890-1 and at Boise, Idaho since. He received 22 votes (necessary to choice, 26) for United States Senator from Idaho in 1903 and was elected Senator for terms 1907-13, 1913-19, 1919-25, 1925-31, 1931-36. 193742. At the time of his death he was Dean of the United States Senate.
