OBITUARY

MR C. BOURKE CHRISTCHURCH. January 20. Mr Charles Bourke, who was a wellknown Canterbury schoo’. master, died recently. He was head master successively at the Mayfield. West Eyreton, East Oxford. Papanui and Waltham schools. After his retirement some years ago he lived at Riccarton. Mr Bourke was born in Listowel, County Kerry, in 1866, and came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Otago, arriving at Port Chalmers in 1874. He was educated at the Timaru Boys’ High School and Canterbury College, where he graduated Bachelor of Arts, gaining special distinction in the exemaination in political economy. He played Rugby for the university first fifteen. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and a son—Miss Alice S. Bourke. M.A., bacteriologist in the Waipukurau Hospital, and Mr E. A. C. Bourke, of Christchurch.
