Evening Meeting Good Performances Fine performances were registered at the Waimate Amateur Athletic Club’s sports meeting held at Victoria Park on Wednesday evening. Although the attendance was not up to the usual standard the officials are to be congratulated on the efficient manner ih which they controlled the meeting.- Results were: Men’s 75 Yards: A. Borrie was the hostess at a very enjoyable dance held in the barn on her property at Glenavy on Wednesday night in honour of Miss Mary Ruane. Novelty dances were as follows:—Lucky spot, Mrs Ireland and partner; Monte Carlo, Miss J. McLean and Mr T. Mountford, and the statue waltz by Miss H. Devlin and Mr Norman Ireland. After supper Mrs V. Cartwright presented Miss Mary Ruane with the traditional key on the occasion of her twenty-first birthday. Among those present were: Mesdames Borrie, Hamilton. Ireland. Cartwright, Speirs (Invercargill), Gray (Papakaio) and Norton (Papakaio); Misses C. McLean, Berry (Christchurch), D. Devlin, R. Marshall, Wilson (Papakaio), Rainey, Surgenor, J. McLean, J. Harris (Waimate), Frew, J. Hamilton and R. Gray. PERSONAL Miss Fiona M. Friel is visiting Pleasant Point. miss Marie Sullivan, Christchurch, is visiting her sister, Mrs F. Horler, Harris Street. Misses Nola and Betty Williams, Hospital Road, are on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs A. F. Rollinson and Mr and Mrs J. Rollinson, of Christchurch, were recent visitors to Waimate. Mr A. F. Henderson, of Karori, Wellington, who has been staying with Mr and Mrs H. H. Meredith, Arno, has left for the north. Mr Henderson was at one time on the staff of the Waimate School. Ml-.s Nancy Price, of Christchurch, is the guest of her sister, Mrs W. D Moss. Miss Colleen Hamilton, Glenavy, is holidaying in North Canterbury. Miss June Berry, Christchurch, is spending the school vacation with Mrs Devlin, Tawai. Miss C. Berry (Christchurch), who ■ has been the guest of Mrs V. Carti wright, Lake Pukaki, is now visiting friends in Glenavy.
