SOCIAL NOTES

Mrs I. E. Ibbotson, Sherwood Downs, is on a visit to Christchurch. The Misses Dorothy and Josephine Cameron, Glen-iti, are on a visit to their aunt, Mrs G. Wilson, Wellington.

Mrs W. B. Cunningham, and her children, Nile Street, have returned from a holiday at Woodbury. Mrs Tavener, Bulls, and Miss Webster, Dunedin, are staying witn Mrs S. Chaney, Mount Possession. Mr and Mrs Rees Morgan and Miss Morgan, Kitchener Square, have returned from a visit to Blenheim.

Miss Dorothy Cox, Christchurch, is staying with her sister, Mrs C. Marshall, Nile Street. Word has been received that Miss Nancy Bond and Miss Cara Pinckney who left New Zealand early in December, arrived in England yesterday. At the home of Mrs Penrose, LeCren’s Terrace, a pleasant afternoon was held last Friday in honour of Miss Gardener’s eightieth birthday.

Mrs Mainwaring, Grand Hotel, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs B. M. Macdonald, Geraldine, has returned to Timaru. Miss Nan Brown, who has been staying with her grandmother, Mrs Gow, Selwyn Street, has returned to Christchurch.

Miss Betty Reading, Wellington, who has been staying with Mrs W. Raymond, Park Lane, returned north yesterday.

Mrs Mac Gibbon Shanks, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs C. G. Holmes, Waimate, has returned to Dunedin. The marriage of Miss Dorothy Davies, the well-known New Zealand pianist, and Dr. R. A. Lochore, was quietly celebrated in Wellington fest Friday. The bride, who is a sister of Mr Daly Davies, Timaru, intends to continue her musical career.

The war has produced a new dance in London called the Black-out Stroll. It starts like the Lambeth Walk, and then lights are blacked out and everybody changes partners. The idea, a dancing master said, is to give shy girls a chance to become acquainted with handsome men in uniform.
