ACQUISITION FOR DEFENCE PURPOSES

A 64ft. high-speed, English-built, motor-boat has been unloaded at Auckland from a ship in port and will be usecj by all three defence services Provision for its purchase was made in the last Estimates. It is stated tha* the craft has a good radius of action and is extremely seaworthy. It will be of the greatest value for target practice by the coastal defence forces of the defended ports throughout the Dominion. The motor-boat, whose size and general appearance have attracted much attention on the wharves, will bo used generally for towing targets at high speed.
