UNPLEASANT TIMES AHEAD

Force To Be Met By Force Mr Casey Broadcasts To America United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 16, 11.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 16. Mr R. G. Casey, who will resign the Ministry of Supply shortly and leave in February to take up the appointment of Australian Minister to the United States, gave a shortwave broadcast to America to-night. Reviewing the Empire's strength and the reasons for the war, Mr Cashy said: “The British race is slow to anger and slow to accept a challenge to fight, but the sword will not be sheathed until the world is ridden of the German lust to dominate and make life impossible for her neighbours. We seek no territory and no material gains. We seek the right to continue to lead oUr own quiet lives in our own way. We believe we are fighting the battle of civilisation and of course will win through. There will be unpleasant times before the final victory. We are left with no option but to meet force with force and by the force that the joint efforts of the Empire and France have organised will surprise Germany and delight those who believe in the way of life the Allies stand for.
