GERALDINE RIVER BOARD

Temuka Borough Rates Investigation To Be Made An investigation into the legal aspects will be macle by the Geraldine County River Board concerning rates levied in the Temuka borough following a letter received at the monthly meeting of the Board. The matter will be investigated and as much information as possible obtained for the Board’s next meeting. The Town Clerk, Temuka. wrote concerning the rates levied in the Temuka borough. The question had been discussed at a meeting of his council, he said, and the opinion was expressed that the present system was rather unfair. The Temuka Council would like the Board to take the necessary proceedings to have the whole of the Temuka borough rated on an equitable basis for river protection work. The matter was left to the chairman and the secretary to obtain the necessary information. A credit balance of £1372/5/7 was disclosed in the Board’s general account. Those present at the meeting were the chairman (Mr K. Mackenzie) and Messrs F. R. Flatman, A. J. Bell, T. Lyon, A. Bisdee, A. J. Davey, C. Ley, J. Acland and the secretary (Mr A. A. Readdie). The real theme of the film is the solution of a murder in a theatre and neither this, nor the obligato of the stage work suffer in a well balanced presentation. John Lodge is a very telling Inspector of Police, whose evening at the theatre is rudely interrupted by the murder. He is supported by Judy Kelly, Joan Marion and Hugh Williams in a picture that is more than worth the price of admission. Mr E. Cholerton. Optical Specialist, proprietor of “Procter’s,” will be visiting G’raldine personally on Wednesday, January 24, when he may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel. Appointments can now be made by ringing Mr Morris Williams, chemist, ’phone 61
