WEDDING

HOPWOOD—SMITH At Trinity Presbyterian Church, Temuka, Isla Maida, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Furneaux Smith, of Temuka, was married to Clarence Edmund, son of Mrs Hopwood, and the late Mr W. Hopwood, of Tinwald. The Rev. Rogers, Christchurch, was the officiating minister, and Major Liddle, of the Ashburton Salvation Army was at the organ. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends of the bride, the colour scheme being cerise, lavender and yellow. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a white model frock with a yoke of needlerun lace, a long train and veil arranged with a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of regal lilies and maidenhair fern. Miss Eva Smith, Temuka, cousin of the bride, Miss Betty Currie. Rakaia, niece of the bridegroom, and Miss Elinor Miller, Timaru, cousin of the bride, assisted as bridesmaids. Their frocks were of pastel green, lavender and pink georgette respectively, and they each had rainbow belts and streamers and veiled halo head-dresses They carried bouquets of flowers, to I tone. The two little flower girls, Alma and Enid Smith, sisters of the | bride, were dressed in ankle length I frocks of blue taffeta, with rainbow • belts and streamers, and carried posies of flowers to tone. Allen, were groomsmen. | During the signing of the register, ’ the Ashburton Male Voice Choir sang the Consecration Hymn, and the Hymn of Praise. At the reception at the Presbyterian Hall the guests were received by Mr and Mrs F. Smith and Mrs W. Hopwood. Mrs Smith wore a frock of navy charmeuse relieved with white embroidery, with navy hat to tone. She carried a bouquet of pink and blue delphiniums. The bridegroom’s mother wore a navy blue braided ensemble with navy hat to tone, and carried a bouquet of red carnations. The bride’s grandmother, Mrs M. Ritchie, of Ripponvale, Cromwell, wore a frock of navy floral silk with a navy georgette coat and hat to match. She carried a bouquet of apricot abutilons. When Mr and Mrs Hopwood left ■ for the north, the bride was wearing a travelling costume of navy pin striped worsted serge with hat to match. She carried a fox fur, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr and Mrs Hopwood will make their home in Ashburton.
