“STRAIGHT-OUT IMPOSTER”
MAGISTRATES COMMENT
Bv Telegraph-Pres? Association CHRISTCHURCH. January 15.
"This man is evidently just a straight-out imposter,” said Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., in sentencing Barry Charges Gilbert, an accountant, aged 29, of no fixed abode, to three months’ hard labour, when Gilbert appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Gilbert faced three charges of obtaining credit by fraud and one of theft. Detective-Sergeant F. Sinclair said the accused came over from Australia last year, and sought work in Dunedin. While there he stayed at three different boarding houses and left without paying the bill. When one of the landlords questioned him about payment he said he was expecting money from Australia.
