Flour Millers and Biscuit Manufacturers Incorporated with this well known Silo brand of flour is the now famous biscuit factory of J. R. Bruce Ltd., whose products are well known now to the public throughout the Dominion. The hazardous step of establishing a large modern manufacturing plant in one of the smaller centres has, despite all difficulties been successfully overcome. Only by keeping ahead of modern practice and producing only the best of lines in the biscuit trade and thus earning a well merited response has this factory been one of the few manufacturing concerns to carry on successfully against competitions in larger industrial centres with the corresponding large home market. The factory although only built 15 years is continually being added to and machinery modernised and conditions for the Staff being made as congenial as possible. Expressions from many visitors from all parts of the globe testify in our visitors book that Timaru and J. R. Bruce Ltd. have done something to be proud of in fostering such and important local industry. To give some idea of the value of this industry to Timaru is borne but by the fact that the Annual Wage Bill exceeds £lO,OOO. The remarkable growth of this firm in all its products has been obtained only by producing the highest grade flour and this product is well known to bakers throughout the Dominion and can be used in confidence by all housewives. It has been the constant aim of this Company to keep abreast of modern Milling Practice and it is an undisputed fact that it is one of the best laid out mills in New Zealand. It is one of the few mills in New Zealand storing its wheat in Silos, these being over 80 feet in height. To ensure regularity in quality a modern wheat Conditioning Plant has been installed and all the wheat is treated before going to the Mill. J. R. BRUCE, LTD. High Street TIMARU
