PLEASANT POINT BRANCH The Pleasant Point Women’s Division celebrated its eighth birthday party last week when members of the Pleasant Point Women’s Institute were present as well as a large numbers of Division members. It was agreed to help with the meals for soldiers, on one Sunday and arrangements will be made at a later date. “The sport I’m most interested in” was the roll call when members showed they were interested in practically branches of sport. Mrs Archer gave a golden thread talk on “Robert Burns.” Miss Cargill of the Timaru Division spoke on Burnham Camp, and subsequently cut the birthday cake, which was made by Mrs Oliver and decorated by Miss F. Chapman. Mrs Davidson presented the prizes won during the year to Mrs Lyons (flowers and most entries), Stratheona (vegetables and cooking), Mrs Crombie (most new members), Miss Crombie (best programme). The competitions resulted as follows.—Shrub: Miss Crombie and Miss Lyons equal 1, Stratheona 2. Sponge Mrs Lyons 1, Stratheona 2. Sponge r-11, Mrs Clelland 1, Stratheona 2. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE Mrs W. Buchan presided over a good attendance of delegates at a meeting of the South Canterbury Executive of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Miss C. M. Cruickshank, at one time a teacher of the Timaru Girls’ High School. Correspondence was read from Mrs W. H. Ward, of Southland, stating that she would be able to supply a tutor for dressmaking classes to start in March of next year. These classes will be held in any country district where 12 pupils enrol. Although the scheme had been inaugurated by the Division its privileges are extended to all countrywomen. Mrs Buchan suggested that all intending groups forward their names to the provincial secretary at an early date. It was decided to offer assistance in catering for soldiers visiting Timaru on the Sunday excursion trains.
