French chalk serves such a multitude of useful purposes that some should always be kept on hand. Here are a few hints regarding its uses—White or light-coloured felt hats or suede gloves can be rejuvenated by rubbing with French chalk and wrapping tissue paper around them and leaving them overnight. Brush chalk off the following morning. Chalk is so thoroughly absorbent that it provides as excellent treatment for grease spots. Apply to both sides of the grease marks. Leave for a few hours and chalk will have absorbed the grease. Discoloured white fur can be improved greatly by shaking French chalk into it. Leave for two days before shaking the chalk out again. Chalk that is moistened and applied as a paste is usually effective for removing mud stains on light fabrics. Allow to dry before brushing off. As an old and proven cleaner for the teeth, precipitated chalk is superior to many of the present-day pastes.
