Flower Arrangement
You seldom see a vase of all yellow flowers, and that is a pity, because a yellow group can be very effective in certain rooms, comments a Sydney writer. In a room with duck-egg blue walls, for instance, flowers in tones of yellow will look indescribably lovely. Another gorgeous colour combination is a vase of yellow flowers in a room with deep plum coloured hangings. Do not use one kind of flowers, but mix all the yellows you can find. There are man; yellow flowering shrubs which can be used to great advantage, but strip off the leaves, otherwise the green will disturb your group. It is a great pity that the lovely yellow wattle does not last well. It can be used, however, if only wanted* for a special occasion. If you have the wattle in your garden, pick it last thing before arranging, and put some sugar i the water in which it is standing. If you buy the wattle, keep it wrapped in paper or in a box until you are ready to use it. The fruit of the persimmon on its brown stem ds an exotic note to your group. Let the fruit trail over the edge. Laburnum (withou* leaves) is also good when used drooping over. The long trusses of flowers are a lovely yellow, and are not used often enough At this time of year an all-yellow arrangement is fairly difficult to obtain, but by mixing some of the more tawny shade you can achieve great harmony of colour. The buffs and the oran"? tones mix in well, but do not be too lavish with your orange unless your room is on the severe side. A white or ivory background is best for this. Iceland poppies are used far too much in vases by themselves A few grouped together in an orang® and yellox ari rangement add a colourful note, but alone, in my opinion, they have too much sameness. Try an arrangement of red hot pokers, tall Rayonante chrysanthemums in buff tones, some creamy pampas grass, the shorter spray chrysanthemums in yellows and tawny golds, a few gladioli, creamy yellow roses. Iceland poppies in a small group, a few sprays of cassia, and some persimm— on their branch.
