BURNSIDE SALE
DOUBLE MARKET QUALITY BELOW STANDARD By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, May 31. Special quality is usually looked for in the Show Week double market at Burnside, but the offering which was forward to-day for this fixture was barely up to the standard of recent years. The fat cattle section attractea an entry of 421 head, including approximately 100 good butchers’ bullocks. Prices rose by 15/- a head for butchers’ sorts, and it was not until the final race that requirements were filled.
A pen of station-bred steers in the store section made £ll/5/-, and dairy cows close to profit had a keen sale. Fat Sheep Almost 3000 fat sheep were offered, including some particularly good pens of wethers and heavy ewes. From the start bidding was brisk with piices on a par with late rates. Medium and light sorts were not in demand and towards the close there was a general easing
Fat Lambs A yarding of 1353 fat lambs was forward. Prime sorts were firm at late levels. The bulk of the medium and light sorts went to exporters at scheduled prices, but unfinished descriptions failed to fnd a market.
For a double sale the offering of 118 fat pigs was small, and the sale a lively one throughout. Values advanced by 5/- to 6/- a head for porkers to make 55/- to 65/-, and baconers 70/- to 80/-.
