WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
PAREORA The eighth birthday of the Pareora Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs P. Coote. Prizes for the previous year’s competitions were presented to Mrs Anderson, Mrs Depree and Miss Whittlcase. Birthday greetings were received from Mrs A. Munro, Fairlie and Mrs Judge, Dunedin. Buring the cutting of the cake best wishes were extended to the Institute by representatives of the executive and the following Institutes: St. Andrews, Otipua, Esk Valley, Bluecliffs and Kingsdown Women’s Division. A pianoforte solo was played by Miss L. Coote. Songs were contributed by Mrs Neil, Mrs Depree and Miss D. Gibb. A humorous reading was given by Mrs Whittlcase. Competitions, “A Musical Wedding,” and “Members Names” were won by Mrs Weenink and Mrs Anderson.
Results of the monthly competitions were as follows: Senior section, worked tea-towel, Mrs C. Moor 1 and 2. Something made from apples, Mrs Moor 1, Mrs Anderson and Mrs Moor, equal 2. Jar of flowers, Mrs Moor 1, Mrs Hayward 2. Specimen bloom, Mrs Wallace 1, Mrs Moor 2. Junior section, worked tea-towel, Miss M. Cleland 1, Miss J. Munro 2. Turkish delight, Miss H. Lange and Miss L. Coote, equal 1. Jar of flowers. Miss L. Coote 1, Miss H. Lange 2. Specimen bloom, Miss L. Coote 1, Miss H. Lange 2.
