Formation of Branch Meeting Called To create interest in the formation of a branch of the Red Cross Society at Geraldine, a public meeting of women has been convened by jVlrs J. M. H. Tripp president of the Victoria League) and Mrs L. E. Williams (president of the South Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes) for next Friday evening. The Mayor (Mr D. C.

McKechnie) has been invited to preside. The meeting will take the initial steps for the formation of a branch and will prepare the area for a visit of the Director-General of the Red Cross Society in New Zealand (Mr I. J. Bridger), on May 3. Classes will probably include work in first aid, hygiene and sanitation, home nursing and air-raid precautions. "ROQUET CLUB SEASON CLOSED The greens were in splendid order and a large gathering of friends and other sports’ bodies were present at the closing of the Geraldine Croquet Club’s season on Saturday. Competitions were won as follow: Aunt Sally, Mr C. Borrell; scally-wag, Mrs J. Dean and Mr C. Tiplady; angle hoops, Mrs F. O. Prosser; crazy hoops, Mrs G. R. Knibb; pegging out, Miss D M. Galloway. BASKETBALL GERALDINE CLUB The annual report of the Geraldine Basketball Club says that two teams, senior and second grade, were entered in the Temuka and District Basketball Sub-association’s competitions. Although not placed high up in the competitions both played good basketball. Two teams had been entered in the King’s Borthday tournament held in Timaru. In conclusion the report extended the club’s thanks to all who had assisted to make the season a si’ccess especially the dorors and owners of cars who had assisted with transport. Woodbury Club An excellent attendance was present at the annual meeting of the Woodbury Basketball Club. Miss Sylvia Powell presided. The annual report and balance-sheet, which disclosed a credit of £5/19/-, waa adopted.

Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Mr R. J. McKeown; patroness, Miss E. L. J. Davies; president, Mrs A. J. Kennedy; vice-presidents, Mesdames C. J Drummond Sharpe, M. Barker, T irton, Sercombe, S. C. Chisnail, H. Cooling, L. E. Williams, Miss Polhill, Messrs Templeton, G. Waller, McEvey, G. Johnstone, F. Fifield and J. Weaver; secretary and treasurer, Miss J. E. Fifield; committee, Misses J. Kirkpatrick, W. Chisnall, R. Cooling, D. Leary, president, secretary, captain and coach.

A special vote of thanks was passed to Miss Sylvia Powell for coaching and to all who had helped the club during the year. Various means of raising funds were discussed, and it was agreed to hold a dance in May. Members of the Woodbury Cricket Club entertained the meeting at afternoon tea. PERSONAL Miss Molly Kerr, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Kerr, Talbot Street, has returned to Oamaru. W : Hazel Woods, Geraldine, has left to take up a position in Christchurch. Mr E. Cholerton, optical specialist proprietor of Procter’s, the Premiei Opticians, Christchurch, will be visiting Geraldine, personally, on Wednesday. .
