AUSTRALIAN GOLI) YIELD Because of a fall in the output from West Australian mines gold production in Australia during February showed signs of decrease for the first time for some years. Since 1930 there had been a steady upward tendency in production. The production of gold in February was 117.670 ounces valued at £1,077,567 compared with 126.703 ounces valued at £1.092,947 in February last year. In Western Australia there was a decrease in output of more than 11,500 ounces compared with the output of February. 1937. Increase in output was recorded in all other states. For the first two months of the year Australian gold production was 237, 3 ounces valued at £2.174.856 compared with 239.638 ounces valued at £2.066.163 in the corresponding two months last year. Production during the period in all the principal states was—New South Wales, 12,4010z5: Victoria, 17.4460z5; Queensland. 24.4050zs and Western Australia 176.9690z5.
