BADMINTON

TIMARU CLUB At the annual meeting of the Timaru Badminton Club, the attendance of members was rather disappointing. The annual report and balance-sheet was presented and adopted. The finances were satisfactory, showing a credit balance of £l3/3/4 and on the year’s working an excess of income over expenditure of £lO/0/8. Outside matches were played against Dunedin, Waimate, Oamaru and Waimataitai, Allenton (Ashburton) and Christchurch Clubs. Four Australian players visited Timaru and their visit was of great interest to all badminton players. The end of the season saw the following in the first six places of the ranking lists—Men: W. Heads. H. Pateman, D. Hardwicke, S. Fogg, J. Gabites, N. Martin; women: Miss M. Newitt, Miss B. Christie, Miss D. Carr, Miss N. Hamlyn. Miss Z. Blaikie, Mrs B. Charman. The club was very grateful to those who had helped hi any way. particularly Messrs H. Clark and Sons, Mathieson (Defence Department), R. Lewis, Oakey and A. Smith. The election of officers resulted as follows—Patron, Mr R. J. Lewis; president, Mr A. N. Oakey; vice-president, Mr W. B. Charman; club captain, Mr W. Heads; vice-captain, Mr J. Gabites; hon. sec. and treas., Miss E. Graham: hon. auditor, Mr R. J. Lewis; general committee, Miss M. Newitt and N. Hamlyn, Messrs N. Martin, V. Koens and M, Walls.

The opening night was fixed for to-morrow.

The annual subscription is to be the same as last year, £1 reducible to 17/6 if paid by June 30. Some discussion took place as to the possibility of increasing the membership limit, but It was decided that, all things considered, it was advisable to leave it as before. 60.
