THE HUNT

OPENING MEET AT THE KENNELS The opening meet of the South Canterbury hounds was held at the Kennels on Saturday. The weather was perfect although the going was very hard. After casting on Mr Cartwright’s farm for a shoit time the hounds found a hare on Mr O’Brien’s farm. She turned left-handed going into Mr Cartwright’s farm then back to Mr O’Brien’s. After about half an hour’s good hunting the hounds killed on Mr Burke’s farm. A r a short spell the hounds found on Mr Burke’s farm and hunted around there for a while. From there th y ran into Mr Cadwr Iler’s L.rm and on into Mr Welsh’s where they finally lost. Those following were: The Master, Mr C. L. Orbell on Marcus, the Huntsman, Mr J. M. Shaw on Bonny Buff, the honor-ry whip, Mr E. James on Kennel Boy, Mrs K. H. Hargreaves on Fortnum, Mrs J. M. Ritchie on Composer, Miss D. Murphy on Peeress, Miss P. Harper on Gendarme, Miss D. Maze on Harkaway, Miss J. Maze on Dick, Miss A. Orbell on Sabu, Miss P. Ritchie on Rosemante, Miss G. Broadhurst on Blue Ray, Miss Denise Grant on Peter, Miss Donalda Grant on Wino, Miss Donette Grant on Micky, Miss Me-’- Shaw on Romeo, Miss M. Oliver on Dapples, Mr I. M. Ritchie on Trait, Mr E. Jackson on Brisk, Mr C. Maze on Valmi, Mr T. Silver on Sunny Comet, Mr F. Bowers on Rocket, Mr Cook on Game Hunter, Mr Bert Shaw on Ariti, Mr P.
