WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST
FAIR TO FINE Special to " The Timaru Herald.” WELLINGTON, February 23. Winds —Moderate but freshening north-easterlies prevailing on the coast and north-westerlies inland. Weather —Fair to fine and warm. Seas —Rough north of Kaikoura, elsewhere slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation Pressure is still high over New Zealand, especially the North Island, but has fallen over south-eastern Australia. Forecast Winds—Variable at first in the far north, otherwise north-westerlies to northerlies prevailing, strong in Cook Strait and the far south, otherwise light to moderate, but gradually freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rather rough to rough in the Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising on the west coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate but freshening north-west to northerly winds. Weather —Fair to fine at first, but clouding over and rain gradually developing in Westland and the far south; rain becoming more widespread during the latter part of the week; temperatures rising.
