WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
FAIRVIEW At the January meeting of the Fairview Women’s Institute, Mrs Kelland presided over a fair attendance of members. A letter was received from Mary Loach on behalf of the school children, thanking the Institute members for the lovely Christmas party given them. A novelty competition was won by Miss June Smith. A demonstration given by Miss McAteer on dressmaking was greatly appreciated. The competitions resulted as follows: Premier bloom: Mrs Jackson 1, Mrs Shaw and Miss Mercer equal 2, Mrs Campbell 3. Sweets: Mrs Shaw 1. Hostesses for the afternoon were: Mesdames E. Butler, T. Butchers, H. B. Dale, T. Campbell. PERSONAL Miss Joan Campbell is visiting Christchurch. Mr McKechenle, Napier, who was the guest of Mrs T. Butchers has returned home. Miss M. Smith, “Terrings,” has returned from a Bible Class conference at Gore. Miss Horrell and Miss R. Smith, who have been staying with Mrs T. Butchers, have returned to Rangiora. Miss Rena Butchers is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr B. Hammond. Oteria, is the guest of Mrs F. S. Smith.
