GERMAN THREAT
MAY RENOUNCE BIG SHORT TERM LOANS VISIT OF ENGLISH BANKER United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 13, 8.55 p.m.) LONDON, January 13. “The Daily Herald" alleges that Mr Montagu Norman (Governor of the Bank of England) went to Berlin because of a threat by Germany to force a crisis among a group of British private banks close to the Bank of England, by renouncing £40,000,000 of short term loans owing by Germany, unless Dr Schacht’s refugee plan was supported. The journal adds that Mr Norman is likely to try to launch a deal for assisting German export trade with the ostensible object of helping Jews to emigrate.
