SCOUT’S INTEREST IN NEW MIGRATION SCHEMES

Scout Headquarters are receiving many enquiries from boys interested in the j recently planned schemes to resume emigration to New South Wales and Queensland, Australia. The schemes are open to Scouts between the ages of 15 and 19. The passage money required for both schemes is:—Under 17 years at date of sailing. £5 10s. od.; and over 17, £ll.

Each boy must have £5 landing money for New South Wales, and £3 for Queensland. On arrival in New South Wales, boys will be sent to the Scheyville Training Farm, where they will be maintained and trained in general farm work. The stay at the farm will be about eight weeks.

After they have been trained they will be placed in employment with a minimum wage of 15/- a week, plus board and lodging.

The lads will be kept in touch with the local clergymen who are representatives of the Central Committee and who will help them at any time they are in doubt or difficulty. It a boy should be offered a partnership, or when the time comes for him* to think of taking up the land on his own account, the Committee will urge the lads to consult with them so that they can advise and guide them.

Those settling in Queensland will be met on arrival at Brisbane and welcomed by Scouts and New Settlers League.

They will be placed with farmers as farm learners and will be paid 15/- a week, plus board and lodging, and after they have gained experience their wages will be increased.

A part of the boy’s wages will be banked Tor him by the New Settlers League, who will open an account in his name. The boys will be under the care of the League until they are 2’ years of age when the banking accoum will be handed over to the young man with accumulated interest.

The New Settlers League and the Boy Scouts Association will act in an advisory capacity. It is expected that 10 boys a month will be sent to Queensland, and 25 boys a month to New South Wales.

NGAITAHU PACK Despite the threatening day the pack hiked to the reserve with their Akela last Saturday afternoon. Cub games with a fair sample of cub cooking at Gleniti—and probably an unfair sampling by the Akela of the pack’s results ended a happv day’s hunting. A scamper tor heme to avoid a icking was a quick decision m ule by the pack.
