ROBBERY ALLEGED
Youth Missing at Albury Believed to Be Hiding FAIRLIE, December 9. As the result of an alleged attempt at assault and robbery, the police are searching for a young man who was last seen at Mount Nessing, Albury. The suspect, it is stated, was employed at a station in the district. A delicate daughter was left at home by herself, and the youth is stated to have entered the house, threatened the girl from behind with a butcher’s knife and asked where certain money was kept. The girl replied by hitting the intruder with a fire shovel, and when a door banged, he took fright and hid in the garden.
There is a warrant out ror the arrest of the youth. In addition to the charge of attempted robbery, it is alleged that the youth removed a suitcase, rifle, shotgun and various other articles from a hut near the homestead.
A search by the police and others in the Rocky Gully Gorge above Mount Nessing resulted in the discovery , of the missing suitcase ai ’ the gun, which had one barrel broken. The search was conducted in that locality because one person in the district considered he saw the suspect in the distance up the Gorge, and it was assumed that he had gone into hiding there .
It is said that no other person ”’as in the vicinity of the Gorge at the time when the youth was believed to have been seen.
A search of Rocky Gully Gorge yesterday by the police and people from the district failed to locate the missing youth. The police possess a full description of him and he is thought to be without food. As only the run and suitcase were found, it is assumed that he is still in possession of the .22 rifle.
