SOUTH ISLAND AWARD By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 9. A settlement was reached in the Conciliation Council this morning in the South Island Radio Workers’ dispute. The award, which provides for a 40hour week, will come into force next Monday and will operate until March 31, 1940. It was agreed that servicemen employed by retail shops should work their 40-hour week during the hours the establishments are open for business. The minimum rates of pay range from £5 5s to £4 10s a week, while the scale of wages for boys and youths is from 15/- to £3 10s, and the usual clauses for the payment of overtime are included. Statutory holidays are provided for, and in addition the workers will receive one week’s holiday after a year’s work.
