The Misses Rita and Monica Cooper are spending a fortnight’s holiday in the south. Mrs C. W. Wood, Beverley Road, will leave to-day to attend the races in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs George Hamilton, “Roselle,” Orari, have returned from a trip to England. Mrs Grierson, who has been staying with Mrs D. H. Marshall, Orbell Street, has left for Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Hector Scott, Ealing, who have been staying with Mrs A. A. Scott, Bidwill Street, have returned home. Mr and Mrs D. Drummond Bayley, New Plymouth, who have been spending a few days in Timaru, have returned home. Miss Knubley who has been spending some weeks in the North Island has returned to South Canterbury and is staying with her sister, Mrs William Raymond, Pleasant Point. The engagement is announced of Nan, only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. McFarland, “Oxley Station,” Hay, New South Wales, and Guy Arthur, only son of Mr and Mrs Timaru Rhodes, “Hadlow Grange.” Many New Zealand listeners will recall the delightful singing of Miss May Lander, Ohongai, Hawera, who on many occasions during the past two years has sung over the air. They will be interested to learn that acting on the advice of Mr Lawrence Tibbett, Miss Lander has settled in New York where she will study. Mr Tibbett was attracted by her voice and her musical knowledge, and predicted that she would go a long way in the art of singing. Miss Lander was a pupil of the Hawera Convent, from which place many fine singers have come from time to time.
