MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly mbetlng o,f the W.E.A. Mr S. A. Odell presided over the following members: Mesdafnfes E. J. Mirams, A. H. Tbytibee, F. Hilton, and S. A. Odell, Messrs E. W. Jones, A. J. Pottihger, R. S. Wheeler, B. H. Deane, G. Chapman, A. M. Paterson, I. Keenan, G. Griffiths and P. Latter. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Cr. A. G. Foster the Borough Council’s delegate to the Association, was passed, the members standing in silence. It was reported that the lectures given by Mr A. J. Campbell and Mr Winston Rhodes had been well attended and very much appreciated. It was decided to forward a letter to the ' District Council, Christchurch, thanking it for including Timaru in the Ensom Bequest lectures.

The social held on October, 19 was enjoyed by all present and the Council placed on record its thanks to the social committee, the performers and all who helped to make the evening a success.

Mrs Mirams expressed the wish that it might be possible to hold socials more frequently. The secretary was instructed to write to the Hamilton W.E.A. congratulating it on obtaining first place in the recent New Zealand drama festival, and to Dr A. H. McLintock, who had lately returned to New Zealand after obtaining his doctorate in England.

Mr Pottinger said he thought the Government should endeavour to use the services or Some of the professors of other countries who were seeking employment and he moved that a resolution be sent to the Minister of Education to this effect.

This was seconded by Mrs Mirams, and after discussion was carried.

The monthly accounts were passed for payment.
