ROBBERY CHARGE
TWO YEARS’ HARD LABOUR By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 3 “With your record it is impossible to consider the probation term for which you ask, particularly because of the seriousness of your offence,” said Mr Justice Northcroft this morning to Cyril James Martin-Leverson, who appeared for sentence on a charge of robbery. The prisoner was not represented by counsel, but made a written submission to the Judge. , It was impossible *o grant probation, added his Honour. Martin-Leverson’s record went back to 1933, when he was again convicted of theft and sent to the Borstal. His offence was a particularly serious one. The fact that the pistol which the prisoner presented at another person was incapable of doing what they imagined it might, did not affect the seriousness of the crime. The prisoner was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
