SOCIAL NOTES

Mr and Mrs N. Hope, The Grampians, Mackenzie Country, will be visitors to Christchurch this week for the races. Captain and Mrs S. M. Broadbent, England, have taken up residence on The Downs, Geraldine. Miss Monica Brophy, Auckland, who has been visiting, Geraldine, has left to spend a holiday in Dunedin and Alexandra. Miss Merible Fitter, England, is spending a holiday as the guest of Captain and Mrs S. M. Broadbent, The Downs, Geraldine. Mr and Mrs H. H. Fisher and Miss Jane Croudace, “Shenley,” Albury, will stay at the United Service, Christchurch, for the races. Mr and Mrs A. S. Elworthy, "Holme Station,” Pareora, will be the guests of Mr J. H. Rhodes, Christchurch, for Cup week. Mr and Mrs James Grant, “Gray’s Hills,” Mackenzie Country, will leave this week for Christchurch to attend the races. Mr and Mrs John Elworthy, Holme Station, Pareora, will leave on Monday to stay at the United Service, Christchurch, for the races. Mr and Mrs Purcell Hunter-Weston, “Hunterslea,” Albury, will leave to-day on a visit to Miss Hunter-Weston, “Highthorne,” Dunedin. Sir George and Lady Shirtcliffe, Wellington, returned by the Orcades on Monday after an extended trip to Colombo and the Far East. Commander and Mrs G. Dennistoun and Miss Dennistoun, Peel Forest, will be visitors to Christchurch for Cup week. They have taken Mrs Herbert Acton-Adams’s flat at St. Elmo Courts. Mr and Mrs Jason Borthwick, Melbourne, who are staying with Mrs Borthwick’s father, Mrs Herbert Elworthy, “Craigmore,” will leave tomorrow to attend the Cup week gaieties in Christchurch. Mrs T. J. Rodgers, Palmerston North, accompanied by her son and daughter Mr Mark Rodgers and Miss Babette Rodgers, motored to Wellington on Saturday to meet her sister, Miss Nellie Scanlan, who arrived in New Zealand by the Awatea. A very pleasant time was spent on Saturday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Lister, Roslyn Terrace, to celebrate the success at Dunedin recently of the Railway Ambulance Division. The evening was spent in dancing and games. Those present were Mr and Mrs J. Lister, Mr and Mrs A. Evans, Mr and Mrs Mclntire, Mr and Mrs G. Drew, Mr and Mrs Hillyer, Mr and Mrs E. Saunders and Mr G. Hutt.
