SHIPPING PORT OF TIMARU

Two Vessels Loading Two vessels were engaged in cargo operations yesterday. The Waikouaiti from Dunedin, continued loading for Sydney, and sailed last night for Lyttelton to complete taking in cargo. The Holmglen also arrived yesterday from Dunedin, and sailed last night for Wellington, New Plymouth and Waikato Heads, via Lyttelton. COASTAL VESSELS Listed Movements The Wingatui, from Dunedin, is due to-day to load for Wellington and Auckland, via Lyttelton. The Waimarino, from Dunedin, is due on Sunday, and will load the following day for Wellington and Auckland, via Lyttelton. Tire Waipahi, from Oamaru, is expected on Monday to load for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, via Lyttelton. Due on Wednesday from Oamaru, the Wainui will load for Wellington, Napier and Gisborne, via Lyttelton. The Waiana, from Dunedin, is due on November 13, and will load the following day for Wellington and Auckland, via Lyttelton. Due on November 16, from Dunedin to continue discharge of Australian cargo, the Kauri will complete unloading at Lyttelton. The Holmlea is now expected from Dunedin on Monday to load for Wellington, New Plymouth, and Waikato Heads, via Lyttelton. The Port Whangarel is expected tomorrow to load for Tauranga, Auckland and Whangarei, via Lyttelton. The Holmdale is due from Oamaru on Saturday to load for 'Wellington, Plcton and Wanganui, via Lyttelton. The Breeze, from Oamaru, is now due on Monday to load for Wellington and Wanganui, via Lyttelton. The Gale, from Dunedin, is expected on Tuesday to load for Wellington, Picton and Wanganui, via Lyttelton. Karetu to Recommission After completing her overhaul at Port Chalmers, the Karetu will be recommissioned and will sail for Bluff and Eden, where she is to commence loading next Tuesday. The Karetu is to complete at Sydney and Hobart for Bluff, Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton. She is dUe at Timaru at the end of the month. Captain G. B. Corby is in command.

Kopara Leaves Colombo The new Richardson motor ship Kopara, en route from Antwerp, cleared Colombo on Wednesday for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Auckland. She is coming via Fremantle, and is due at Wellington on November 17. San Francisco Shipping Figures compiled by the Marine Exchange show that a total of 473 vesssels arrived at San Francisco during the month of August, their aggregate tonnage amounting to 1,548,351, against 492 ships and a tonnage of 1,520,202 in the same month last year. Departures from this port last month totalled 452 ships with an aggregate net tonnage of 1,518,316, which compares with 480 ships and a tonnage of 1,557,193 in August, 1937. Amsterdam’s Biggest Liner The liner Oranje, 20,000 tons gross, built by the Nederlandsche Scheeps bouw Maatschappij, Amsterdam, for the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland, Amsterdam, was launched on September 8 by Her Majesty Queen Wilhelmina. She is 656 ft. in length, and is the largest vessel built or owned at Amsterdam. She will have a speed of 21 knots.
