LABOUR REBUFF
EARLY FOLLING IN MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 2, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 2. Labour early received severe rebuffs In the municipal elections In 360 cities and towns In England and Wales for the replacement of one-third of the Municipal Councils. There are 859 Labour, 482 Conservative, 97 Liberal and 370 Independent candidates. Labour took control of Burnley, Sunderland, Wakefield, Leicester and Bristol, though winning Gateshead and Erlth, which they have not previously controlled. Labour also lost Hull. “The Times” points out that the net effect of 132 results declared last night was a Conservative advance against Labour. The Party gains and losses were:
