The Caineroons’ Union has made an appeal to France to allow the Cameroons to remain, subject to a French mandate. The East African Chambers of Commerce passed a resolution requesting an irrevocable declaration from Britain that Tanganyika would remain part of British East Africa, states a message from Nairobi. The resolution urged the formation of the territories into a customs, fiscal and administrative union under British sovereignty.

The Capetown correspondent of “The Daily Herald” states that the Union Government is planning a Pan-African conference of all European States interested in African territory to consider the satisfaction of Germany’s colonial claims. The Minister of Defence (Mr O. Pirow), who is at present in England, has been authorised to consult the British Government regarding the feasibility of the proposal. It is reliably stated that if England, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium and Portugal are favourable, the Union Government will seek the holding of a conference in Capetown, to be opened by His Majesty the King. Experts consider that more than a year would be required to prepare the ground, by when, it is hoped, the international situation will be calm enough to enable the question to be discussed dispassionately.
