CALL FOR SERVICE

ATTITUDE OF AUSTRALIAN CABINET United Press Association —By Electric Teleyrhnb Cnnvrlght (Received October 30, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 29. The Melbourne correspondent of “The Sydney Morning Herald” states that the Federal Ministry will not attempt to introduce universal training for at least a year unless there is a collapse of the present system of voluntary enlistment. In the meantime, Federal Ministers support a vigorous campaign of recruiting for the militia. The Federal Cabinet reached these decisions after the Ministers had heard the Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) and the Minister of Defence (Mr H. V. Thorby) on the subject. Tire Canberra correspondent of "The Sydney Morning Herald" states that consideration is being given by the Government to the establishment of a national defence register. Under it every able-bodied Australian would be registered and assigned to special defence duties in preparation for an emergency.
