RIFLE SHOOTING

TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB A sweepstake match was fired on Saturday afternoon, 10 shots at 500 and 600 yards. The day was fine but a changing light and a variable wind kept shooters on the alert. At 500 yards the shooting was up to the Club's usual high standard. C. H. Johnson, with 49 out of a possible 50, being the best. The following shot 48 —F. J. Black, E. M. Healy, C. K. Paine, W. Kenealy, W. T. Taylor and A. McBeath. A change to a southerly caught the early squads at 600 yards. W. Kenealy had a nice shoot at this range, his score of 47 giving him a total of 95 for the day. C. K. Paine and F. R. Cross both shot 46. The following were the prizewinners: W. Kenealy, A. Mcßeath, C. K. Paine and F. R. Cross. The scores were:—

leading men delighted the audience. "The Firefly” presents a powerful story of dramatic romance, as well as a picture for remarkable music. M.G.M. has gone the limit in its settings and in the artistry of presentation. Lavish scenes in the High Sierras and others made on thirty massive sets present the sweeping drama of old Spain in the period when Napoleon was defeated by Wellington at Vittoria. Miss MacDonald dances beautifully and sings "Love Is Like a Firefly,” "He Who Loves and Runs Away” and “When a Maid Comes Knocking at Your Heart” in perfect voice. Allan Jones sings "A Woman's Kiss” and “The Donkey Serenade," and they sing in duet, "Glannina Mia” and “Sympathy” with charming effect.
