TEMLIKA IMPROVED MOTOR CAMP

Plans of Progress League Installation of Better Facilities Important improvements calculated to make the motor camp at Temuka up-to-date In every way are planned by the Temuka Progress League. Designs for a building to house a bathroom, conveniences and toilet rooms are at present being considered, and a start has been made with the draining of the area. The building to be erected will contain several divisions and provision for toilet rooms for men and women has been made. A bathroom is included. The plans have already been approved by the Domain Board, and it is hoped that work will be commenced soon, so that the conveniences can be used during the coming season. On Thursday night members of the League met at the camp and discussed the plans. It has not been decided whether to go on with the whole building this year or not. The heaviest cost will be for the plumbing work and if it is considered that the expense of erecting the building in one year is too great, one section will be completed for this season and the other later. Extensive boulder drains are being set around the camp to carry off surface waler during floods. The camp at Temuka is becoming increasingly popular and each year the number of visitors shows a decided increase. With the installation of further facilities and providing the weather during the summer season is suitable for camping it is expected that visitors this year will be a record. There was a good number of campers at the ground over Labour week-end. WOMEN’S DIVISION NEW BRANCH FORMED A decision to form a branch of the W.D.F.U., at Skipton was made at a meeting of women in the Skipton School which was convened by Mrs O Parr. Mrs W. “THE FIREFLY” Foremost musical picture of the year and probably in screen history, Metro-Goliwyn-Mayer’s adaptation of Rudolf Frlmlls operetta, “The Firefly,” opens to-day at the Elite Theatre, with Jeanette Macdonald starred, and Allan Jones and Warren William in featured roles. Here is screen artlsty at its height. The dramatic story of Spain in the era when Napoleon was conquered at Vittoria by Wellington, provides a moving plot as vast and impressive as any that could be filmed. And, artistically, it provides a vehicle for the Frlml score that thrilled the audience. Jeanette Macdonald appears in her seventeenth musical triumph and it is unmistakably her finest. Allan Jones emerges as a star in his own right. Warren William performs with his accustomed artistry. Miss Mardonald dances with rare grace and sings “Love Is Like a Firefly,” “He Who Loves and Runs Away” and “When a Maid Comes Knocking at Your Heart.” Jones sings “A Woman’s Kiss” and “The Donkey Serenade,” and they join in duet in “Giannlna Mia” and “Sympathy.”
