COURTESY VISIT
AMERICAN DESTROYER By Telegraph —Pres.’ Association AUCKLAND, October 27. The United States destroyer Maury is expected to arrive at Auckland on Monday morning from Pago Pago, and will berth at the western wharf. She is to remain in port until November 9, when it is expected that she will return to San Francisco. The Auckland visit is to be a purely unofficial and informal one, and is really a courtesy call in extension of the long distance cruise the destroyer has been making in the Pacific Ocean, in association with other units of the United States Navy. It has been decided by the Government to tender Lieutenant-Commander Thompson and his officers a State luncheon at the Grand Hotel on Tuesday, when the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) will officially welcome the ship to New Zealand. A reception to the captain and officers will be held the same evening by the Auckland Officers’ Club.
