There were moving scenes at the airport. Mr Chamberlain was acclaimed with a mighty burst of cheering In which the police patrolling the route joined spontaneously. The atmosphere of cheeriness and optimism pervaded . the members of the Cabinet. Officials v.a described the wonderful way Mr Cham- > berlain has stood up to the terrific n strain as simply marvellous during the past fortnight. Africa (Mr Te Water), handed Mr Chamberlain a telegram from General Hertzog: “I congratulate you most heartily on your efforts to secure for humanity the blessings of peace. I wish you every success In your high mission, and I express the greatest admiration for the great-hearted statesmanlike manner wherewith you have dealt with the situation.” Thousands of telegrams, letters and messages are pouring In to No. 10 Downing Street, thanking Mr Chamberlain.
