WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
CLAREMONT Mrs White presided over a fair attendance of members at a meeting of the Claremont Women’s Institute. Arrangements were made for delegates to attend the officers school at Washdyke, and the half-yearly Federation meeting at Waimate. Results of the monthly competitions were—Bowl of narcissi blooms: Mrs Talbot 1, Mrs Seyb and Miss Grieg equal 2, Mrs F. Black and Miss D. Seyb equal 3. Three sausage rolls: Mrs Stocker 1, Mrs W. Black 2, Mrs F. Black 3. During the month, a very successful and pleasant evening was held in the Claremont Schol, proceeds going towards the Women's Institute and School. Miss E. Davies of Geraldine gave a lantern lecture on the “Coronation in England” and “The building of the Queen Mary.” As the pictures were being shown, Miss Davies spoke about them. Supper was served by the School Committee and the Institute. Dancing was continued until midnight, Mr and Mrs W. Black, Mrs Craythorne, and Mrs C. Black supplied the dance music. Messrs A. McConnell and W. Black were M.C’s. Raymond Brien was the winner of a prize given by Mrs White.
