LADIES’ NIGHT

SAVAGE CLUB “Ladies Night,” when the members of the South Canterbury Savage Club entertain their friends with song and dance, is eagerly looked forward to and last night when the annual korero was held in the Bay tea rooms there was a very large audience to hear the enjoyable and bright programme. The large room was arranged as a meeting house, decorated with Maori carvings and emblems, the great chief’s house being decorated with the Union Jack on which reposed the Pipe of Peace and the Sacred Axe.

The concert opened with a haka most realistically performed by the members. Then followed the induction of Great Chief Leo Collins by ex-Great Chief R. Holdgate. Other items included songs by Savages J. D. Ritchie and H. Francis, a saxophone solo by Savage Hec. Macdonald and a recitation by Savage J. Prendergast. A humorous quartette was given by Savages D. McKivett, W. Pickard, L. Jackson and L. O'Donoghue, also a sketch in which Savages L. Jackson, L. Carroll and M. Richards took part. E-.joyable items were those given by the choir under Savage H. Francis and by the orchestra conducted by Savage A. Schnack.

The committee responsible for the arrangements included Great Chief L. P. Collins, Tohunga E. Budd. Braves H. G. Naylor, H. W. Brownie, Warriors H. J. Washer, J. Stevens, T. Slattery, A. Wotherspoon, High Scalp Hunter D. T. Todd and Chief Scribe Bruce Baxter.
