Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Malcolm Macdonald (Secretary of State for the Colonies) said he regretted to state that there were yesterday further serious acts of violence in a number of centres in Palestine. The Repulse was remaining at Haifa and 20 officers and 254 men had been landed to assist in maintaining order. A Jewess was stoned and seriously injured and a Jew was stoned and stabbed and also seriously hurt. Three bombs were thrown, two harmlessly, but the third injured a Jew. There were seven cases of arson in Jewish premises. An Arab priest, opponent of the exiled Mufti, was shot dead in the old city of Jerusalem. Arabs themselves believed the assasin were not Jews, but Arab terrorists, who suspected the priests of communicating with the police. Bombs thrown into a paper warehouse, wounded two Jews.
