Recent falls of snow on the Hunter Hills, behind Waimate, one of the only •places in New Zealand where wallabies run wild, have forced the wallabies to move to lower levels in search of feed,

and parties of sportsmen who have visited the range have been very successful. Conditions were not good for shooting last week-end; but one party from Waimate crossed the hills and shot six wallabies. A member of the party said yesterday that snow had been falling part of the time they were

on the hills, making shooting very difficult. They had seen herds of between 15 and 20 wallabies, and he thought the animals werp even more plentiful now than they were at the beginning of the season.
