BARGE BEACHED
HOLED BELOW WATER LINE By Telegraph —Press Assoc: won AUCKLAND, July 13. A mishap to the shingle barge Rover necessitated the beachirtg of the vessel at Mission Bay in the early hours of this morning. Opportunity was taken at low tide to make temporary repairs to a hole in the bow, and it was hoped to float the vessel off at high tide tonight, but this did not prove possible and she was left safely on the sands. She will probably be put afloat tomorrow.
The Rover, which is owned by McCallum Brothers, Limited, shingle merchants, of Auckland, was being toyffd in from Hauraki Gulf with a load of shingle and when off Kohimarama she touched a submerged rock on the edge ot the reef. The force of the impact drove the fluke of one of the anchors which was hanging over the bow. through the planking below the water line. As the vessel appeared to be making water fast it was decided to beach her, and she was taken into shallow water at Mission Bay.
