RUGBY THE ALL BLACKS
Hotel Accommodation In Wellington Union Explains
By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 13. If J. Dick was not advised that he would not be allowed to accompany the New Zealand team to Australia owing to his having contracted an attack of measles it was the fault of the Auckland Rugby Union and not of tins committee, said Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union at a meeting of th? executive to-night. Dick’s exclusion from the New Zealand team was decided upon by this committee after consulting its medical advisers and upon the advice of one of the managers of the team who is a doctor. So far as accommodation for the All Blacks in Wellington was concerned, the chairman proceeded, accommodation was booked on June 23, the day after the tour was arranged, and the unions concerned were notified to this effect on that day. When the team assembled in Wellington the proprietor of the hotel said that it would be impossible on that day to book single rooms, but accommodation was available for the whole of the team, though two or three members might have to share rooms and some might have to put up with shakedowns in the lounge. On account of the rough weather the suggestion was made that the team might care to spend the night on the steamer, but had the team preferred accommodation was available for them at the hotel. There was nothing wrong with the arrangements which were made by the New Zealand Union, and in fairness to the hotelkeeper the position should be explained. The team had all their meals at the hotel and a special lounge was provided for their convenience. What more could one
expect? A statement was received from th Wellington Rugby Union showing ths the gross takings at the North Islan v. South Island match at Wellingto on June 11 were £983 6 3 and n< receipts £BB5/10/3, the balance to th New Zealand Union being £557/12/11
